Farmville Baptist is a community of moderate Baptists. We affirm the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention. In 2000, the church voted to withdraw from the Southern Baptist Convention, but we are affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia and the Southside Baptist Association. We support the state and national Cooperative Baptist Fellowship organizations, and we actively participate in joint ministerial ventures with other Christian churches in the Farmville area under the auspices of the Farmville Area Ministerial Association.

Worship is a defining activity at Farmville Baptist. The worship of the church may be characterized by a thoughtful reverence. Each worship gathering (averaging 110-120 people) is centered on a theme usually based upon the assigned scriptural readings of the Revised Common Lectionary. We follow the Christian calendar and we celebrate the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. But within its liturgical formality, our worship services also periodically incorporate contemporary songs, dramatic presentations, congregational participatory exercises and other ways to engage the five senses and the whole person. The aim of each worship experience is to re-present faithfully the drama of God’s redeeming work and to inspire worshippers to ascribe worth to God and to join in what God is doing in our world.

Rev. Michael Cheuk has been our pastor since August of 2005. One of Michael’s passions is to help discern, nurture, equip and release each member for his or her own particular ministry for the Kingdom of God. You can visit Michael’s blog of mostly sermons by clicking here.

Farmville Baptist Church is located in downtown Farmville, a town of about 6,800. While Farmville retains its small-town charm, it is also the home to Longwood University (total enrollment: 4,400), and just 5 miles from Hampden-Sydney College (total enrollment: 1,060). These institutions of higher education provide Farmville many educational, athletic and cultural offerings that one would not find in a town of similar size. It also provides an opportunity for the church to have a significant ministry to collegiate young adults.

We hope that when you’re in the Farmville area, you’ll come be our guest! Our Sunday School classes begin at 9:45 a.m. and our morning worship begins at 11:00 a.m.
